As confusing as it is to witness the chief executive attempt to overturn the established notion about democracy and exchange it with its complete opposite, there remains a substantial portion among Americans who might not perceive it entirely new. That encompasses people such as ourselves – among senior generations almost a majority – who were brought up as mainline Protestant Christians.
We have witnessed over the years as politically conservative religious groups converted the Savior we grew up with into exactly the opposite of our understanding of him. Fundamentally, they transformed an image of affection into a symbol of animosity who approves precisely the cruelties that he denounced in scripture; this change developed more slowly, through multiple decades as opposed to months, yet it remains disconcerting through similar means, a disorienting gut punch for countless people.
A Harmful Christianity Takes Hold

The apparent and clear truth that the Jesus of the gospels requests a form of extreme compassion centered on the poor has consistently rendered Christian religion something of a controversial faith: engaging for the general public, but owing to its natural unconventionality demanding to be controlled. In the 1950s it was controlled through watering down – The Protestant faith was so dominant that it essentially blessed current circumstances.
A Struggle for the Best Among Us
Hence I have become inspired to see the determined opposition against Trump arise in this past year. It has provided great solace to help build the initiative that has protested openly through repeated demonstrations, and seems to have inspired electorate to show up in large quantities in interim political contests.
